Stop the euthanization of hundreds of endangered tortoises

The Issue

These endangered species have been taken in over the years by this facility which now plans to close due to budget cuts and will kill all tortoises rather than relocate them or search for a more equitable alternative!  Relocation of healthy members of the facility to wilderness areas is wonderful and BLM apparently opened public comment last September to clear this effort. However, euthanization of those tortoises who are considered unsuitable for release is unacceptable. The San Diego Zoo had been a partner in this conservation center as has US Fish and Wildlife. Surely there are other zoos or facilities who can care for the unreleased population of tortoises rather than resorting to mass euthanization
