Keep The North Carolina Governor's School!

Keep The North Carolina Governor's School!

The Issue

For 49 years, the North Carolina Governor's School has trained over 31,000 rising academically or intellectually gifted Juniors and Seniors in the ways of the "Avant Garde" mindset, the forefront of thought. For 6 weeks, the Governor's School offers 600 students from across the state, 300 at Meredith College and 300 at Salem College, the opportunity to immerse themselves in modern philosophical thought and one of ten men areas of study such as instrumental music, natural science, social science, choral music, English, mathematics, and much more. There are no tests, no grades, and no stress. This summer program is essential for students to help find themselves and associate with other academically/intellectually gifted students from across the state and across the world. However, there may not be a 2012 Governor's School in North Carolina.

Due to budget cuts made by the General Assembly, NCGS (North Carolina Governor's School) has been given absolutely no funding for 2012, the 50th year of the program. The Department of Education will decide whether or not to keep the program around the first of August. Even if this petition is not signed by then, keep signing this petition! Peace and democracy starts with education and if we cannot keep the NCGS alive, a little piece ofvthe desire to learn and educate dies with it. Not only for North Carolina students, but for all students and for education's sake, sign this to keep The North Carolina Governor's School!
