Demand that Fox and Sony Protect Security Guards

Demand that Fox and Sony Protect Security Guards

The Issue

Although the Hollywood film industry made more money in 2009 than ever before, its security guards are struggling to make ends meet.

Andrews International, a private security provider, is the main source of Hollywood's security guards. Although Andrews is financially viable enough to frequently buy out its competitors -- and pay settlements when former employees sue for workers' rights violations -- when it comes to its employees, the company has a history of cutting corners. Workers make about $11/hour, hardly a living wage in Los Angeles, and often begin work with no training and inadequate equipment. Andrews International is infamous for violating the law to save a buck; the Service Employees International Union has collected numerous reports of Andrews managers eliminating lunch breaks and requiring long hours without overtime pay.

It's time that the major Hollywood film studios throw their weight in favor of workers rights. Ask Fox Searchlight and Sony Pictures, Andrews' two biggest Hollywood clients, to take action to protect their security guards.

Specifically, ask Fox and Sony to demand that Andrews International 1) finance and fully comply with an impartial investigation of potential workers rights violations; and 2) immediately provide a living wage to its employees. If Andrews refuses to accept these terms, Hollywood studios should take their business elsewhere.

Sign the petition below, and ensure that Hollywood security guards get the compensation and treatment they deserve.
