The bill, which is being heavily pushed by MP David Bahati, would create heavy and harsh consequences for publicly out LGBT members of Ugandan society. This bill would make the consequences for participating in, as the bill states "homosexual acts", increase from 14 years in prison to a life prison sentence. Both scenarios are terrible, and must be stopped. As well as that, there is a proposed death penalty for "aggravated homosexuality" which is defined as "when one of the participants is a minor, HIV-positive, disabled, or a serial offender". Also under the proposal, people would serve jail time if someone told them of homosexual acts they had partaken in, and they failed to tell the government about this. In January, David Kato, a leading protestor of this anti-homosexuality bill, was murdered quickly after he sued a magazine that outed him as gay.

The situation in Uganda cannot continue like this. This bill needs to be done away with. It cannot be allowed to pass. Tell President Obama to demand that President Musevini vetoes this bill.
