In a recent interview Ex-NFL Player David Tyree argued that same-sex parents are ill-equipped to raise a child of the opposite sex.

"You can't teach something that you don't have," Tyree said in the video. "So two men will never be able to teach a woman how to be a woman."  It is not justifiable to alter a long-standing institution "because a minority -- an influential minority -- has ... an agenda," he said.

As a self-proclaimed devout Christian, Tyree issued statements in opposition to the State of New York's Marriage Equality Act. He continued on to say  that the bill's passage would "be the beginning of our country sliding toward... anarchy".

We all agree that everyone has a right to their own opinion, but to call same-sex parents ill-equipped to raise children is a hurtful and unproven remark. Children look up to Sports and Movie stars alike in order to form opinions. This type of statement demeans children of same-sex couples and also encourages bullying from other students in the school yard.

A meta-analysis from over 10 years ago done in 2001 found that the sexual orientation of a parent is irrelevant to the development of a child's mental health, social development and to the quality of a parent-child relationship.

David Tyree needs to retract his statements based on his lack of knowledge and issue a formal apology to the children of same-sex parents. His statements are hurtful and damaging to the well being of children raised in same-sex parental homes. It's this type of bullying that stigmatizes a child and creates socially unacceptable attitudes.

Let's ask David Tyree to apologize immediately to the children currently being raised by Same-Sex couples for the hurtful comments made about their parents.
