What should have been a night to celebrate the accomplishments of Quvenzhané Wallis, the youngest nominee for a best actress award in the history of the Academy Awards, became yet another reminder of the racism, sexism, and otherwise dehumanizing nature of media culture.  We condemn the vile tweet from The Onion, demanding an apology to Ms. Wallis, her family, and to the women and girls throughout society who are harmed by these dehumanizing words.  We demand action to guarantee that such reprehensible actions are never seen again.  We demand immediate action from The Onion, including support for organizations committed to ridding media culture of sexism and racism.
