DC City Council: Revise or Repeal the Taxicab One-Color Mandate

The Issue

The DC City Council passed legislation that all DC taxicabs must be painted a single-color (red and gray) like the City-owned Circulator buses.  Mandating privately owned vehicles to look like City-owned public transportation vehicles is prejudicial and illogical. Operators, customers and communities have strong affiliations and loyalty to companies because of the unique color, brand and services that they provide. Companies that provide dispatch service are more specifically threatened by this law and may be forced to exit the taxicab industry or rebrand as another service. It is guaranteed that brand loyal drivers will leave their affiliated companies and sign-on with non-brand entities like Uber and others.
