Dogs that are deaf are no less trainable or loving pets than dogs that aren't deaf. Irresponsible breeding has meant that up to 12% of Dalmatians are hard of hearing or deaf, a statistic drawn from the DCA itself. However, their position that dogs should be "humanely destroyed" as puppies (or even as adults), that owners of deaf Dalmatians should consider "starting over with a hearing puppy" are ableist and disgusting. With support and training for the owners, dogs can be taught sign language and become welcome members of a family. A dog shouldn't be put down just because it is deaf!
