Limit executive pay and save tuition for student aid

Limit executive pay and save tuition for student aid
The Issue
The Board of Trustees just raised the very highest salaries at CUNY even higher—and at a rate faster than inflation. On June 25, 2012, the Board approved salary range increases of more than 22% for deans, presidents, and Central administrators. The Chancellor's maximum salary jumped 54% to $724,470, not including other forms of compensation, such as housing.
This is a shameful use of taxpayer and tuition dollars, especially when students are facing new hikes, departments remain on hiring freeze, and faculty and staff continue to work without a contract.
In the spirit of shared sacrifice and public accountability, executive salaries must be held in check. CUNY needs leaders dedicated to public higher education, not greedy executives looking for a handout. The trustees must limit executive pay and save tuition dollars for student aid.
