Back in 2008 former Smooth Jazz station CD 101.9 had switched formats and had become a rock station entitled 101.9 RXP, this was a great day for rock and roll in New York City because it had not had an alternative rock station since WXRK (92.3 KROCK) had gone off the air and had become a top 40 format. RXP had a large variety in music when it came to rock, from classic rock, to 90s grunge and alternative, to indie rock. In 2010 Merlin Media had bought out the 101.9 RXP and had become it all news format, this was devastating for fans of alternative rock since it was the only station which had played both classic and current rock. In 2012 the station had changed back to rock and when this had occured in just three months, the ratings had gone up dramatically almost nearly as good as any top 40 station. 101.9 currently is a sports talk format, there is now no alternative rock station in the New York City area, which is what the city needs right now. We could use a station that mixes the old rock with the new rock.
