American system of food production and consumption is chaotic and has negative effects on human health, the environment, and global poverty, both in America and abroad. We could, with sound policy, gradually rebuild that anarchic system to produce food more cheaply, with less cost to the environment, greater profit to the producer, and greater benefit to human health as well as animal lives.
