Consideration of Parole

The Issue

This petition is an effort to produce community support for the consideration of parole for Thomas Jones who has served nineteen years of a life sentence for Murder. The courts found Thomas Jones at the age eighteen responsible for the murder of another man. The question must be asked; is the sentence retribution or meant as a deterent to allow the culprit an enviroment for reformation. Prison should be enforced as a curative approach to inmates to heal the criminal intention which often result from low self-esteem and a lack of disciplinary action in the home. Thomas Jones was not an abused teen, but the absence of a positive influential male that could teach and impress upon his psyche and instill principles of living and reasoning plays a vital role in the decisions he made as a teen when he commited this crime. His mom was a single mother who often worked long hours to support her children and this led Thomas to learn from his peers and the streets. The principles of the streets are harsh and unforgiving. What Thomas experienced as a struggling teen in the absence of a positive male role model and a single mother influenced his invitation to the streets. The bad communication with derelicts in the streets contributed to immature thinking and a reactive point of logic when problems were presented to Thomas as a youth , as well as corrupting the good morals instilled by Thomas mother. Years of reflection has caused Thomas to reflect deeply on his actions and he wishes to express his deepest apology to the family of the victim. Prison has fostered a character of proaction and reformation for Thomas as well as the tools to be a productive memember of the community and the society. For this reason, we ask that he be granted parole and forgiven for the crime he commited as a youth.
