Connecticut Instate Tuition bill
Connecticut Instate Tuition bill
The Issue
Last week the Connecticut State House of Representatives voted to pass HB6390, which would allow for CT residents, regadless of status, to pay instate tuition rates. The Bill is now on the Senate floor and it still needs your support.
An estimated 2 million undocumented students attempt to beat insurmountable odds in order to pursue the higher education to which they are entitled. Of the select population of students that manage to gain acceptance, an even smaller percentage is able to actually go because of the prohibitive costs of education. Unable to access state and federal scholarships and grants, undocumented students find that they are expected to pay out-of state tuition rates that are often three times the amount paid by their neighbors. Connecticut is currently attmpting to right this injustice by proposing legislation that will allow students raised in Connecticut to pay instate tuition rates. This may not be the final step in acheiving the justice that undocumented students deserve, but it is a first step. Join us be signing this petition advising Connecticut Representatives that they have a moral responsibility to preserve the right of education for allof Connecticut's children.
