The Issue
The story about Victoria Sethunya's unfair loss of immigration status needs not be retold here. In summary her former Utah state university international student's office director, Mr.Morteza Emami, and others put wrong dates and wrong courses in which she was engaged at the university. Victoria applied to USCIS to be reinstated but the university provided a reinstatement form that still has wrong dates and courses for which she was at the university. No one can correct an incorrect student database using incorrect information.
Victoria did her part as a student. Paid fees and attended classes. The job of the international student office director, Emami, was to keep a true record of her enrollment at the university, but he did not.
His failure to maintain a true record led to failure of Victoria's immigration database and it has not won and cannot win since then unless the record is corrected.
She and her family are trapped in broad tape away from home for a mistake, but not her own.
Victoria was supposed to work for one year in Optional Practical Training in any area of law but false documents prevented her from doing so. In her own words this is what she has to say about the issue:
"If I have to preserve a lie to enter in the practice of law in Utah, or anywhere in the US, I will prevent myself from entering such a practice." No one should give up his or her values under political or any pressure. fr
Victoria has contributed much to her community and continues to speak for others despite challenges facing her family.
She is taking LSAT , law school entrance exams, on February 11, 2011, which is not worth much without the correction of her student and legal database.
Universities in Utah already allow illegal students to attend college, but Victoria's daughter will be an exception to the Dream.
Victoria's resume and continued support for others are unmatched.
