In the last week there have been 3 instances in Western New York where a vehicle has made an unsafe start or stop and ran into a business or restaurant. Sept 13- 64 year old man's car hit Walgreens in Amherst, NY and also Sept 13- 75 year old woman's car hits Burger King in Jamestown, NY. Most recently and tragically Sept 17- 76 year old woman's car hit Cheeburger Cheeburger restaurant in Amherst NY killing the parents of a 13 year old, leaving him orphaned.
The couple tragically killed, Joe and Kathy Bennett are my Aunt Jody's Brother and Sister in-law. I am proposing that a law be passed making it mandatory for parking spaces near buildings and restaurants have guard rails to reduce tragedies like this one. The guardrails would potentially slow the car down lessening the impact, and hopefully stopping the car before it gets the chance to hit the building. A guard rail would also save any pedestrians on the sidewalks.
We can make a simple change, and prevent more tragedies like this one. I hope you will sign this and we can turn this petition into a law.
