The post office is our nation's second largest civilian employer, employing 574,000 personnel and is one of, if not the largest employer of military veterans.

Our postal system is not mismanaged! In 2006, Congress made a ridiculous demand that the post office fund 75 years of retirement benefits over a ten year period, including benefits for workers who haven't yet been hired or even born! The USPS tried to comply by paying tens of billions of dollars, but like any underwater mortgage holder, simply couldn't keep up, thus creating huge losses for that agency. Now, in the interest of privatization, Congress is considering passing H.R. 2309, the Postal Reform Act of 2011. This jobs killing legislation would pare USPS' functions to basic levels, putting 100,000 people out of work and ultimately close our post office doors for good!

Did you know that the USPS delivers 25% of UPS and FedEx mail every day? That there are places in the United States where UPS and FedEx don't deliver? That their delivery rates are decidedly higher? Rural residents rely on the post office for timely delivery of newsletters and newspapers, not to mention that subsequent delays in service would impact paying of bills and the timely delivery of mailed prescriptions and medicine.

Can this recession bear any more job losses? The USPS receives no taxpayer dollars! Don't our representatives care about our veterans who risked life and limb for America while serving in the Armed Services? This demand to foreclose on the Post Office is unconstitutional! Please sign this petition and tell Congress and President Obama to stop this assult on the U.S. Constitution!
