Community Garden at 94 West Front Street for One Year

The Issue

We are asking the Red Bank Borough Council to approve a community garden at 94 West Front Street on a one-year trial basis.

After extensive research and evaluations, this location has proven ideal in terms of sunlight, soil, public access, and integration with library programs. However, the ONLY thing stopping the citizens of Red Bank from teaching their children how to grow delicious fruits, vegetables and herbs is the approval of our governing body.

The Borough Council claims it supports the idea of a community garden - but it has repeatedly refused to consider the one location where it would benefit the majority of interested citizens. Possible reasons include neighboring properties that include the headquarters of K. Hovnanian and luxury condominiums - properties which have fought to restrict public access to the Navesink for their own private benefit.

The time has come to take back our town. Anybody who lives in Red Bank knows that the empty lot next to the library should be a place where the public can come together, appreciate the land, appreciate the river, and appreciate each other.

COME TO BOROUGH HALL JUNE 8, 2011, AT 6:30 P.M. TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR THE COMMUNITY GARDEN.
