Because voters deserve to hear more than just the Democrat and Republican arguments. The largest political party in this country is the Independent party, not Democrat or Republican and the Libertarian party/movement is growing exponentially. It is only right that any candidate that will appear on the Presidential ballot in all 50 states should be allowed to participate in the debates and have his voice heard. The electorate deserves to hear all arguments and positions.
