Ryan James is a young man with Asperger's Syndrome. He has worked hard to achieve his High School Diploma. He has even completed College Prep courses. The board "allegedly" voted against allowing him to walk because they felt he might be disruptive or succumb to a "meltdown". To the best of my knowledge, Ryan has attended multiple school functions without incident. I myself contacted the BOE concerning this issue, I received a call back that he would be allowed to walk. At that time, they "allegedly" failed to add that allowing him to walk came with stipulations. 1. He would have to walk escorted. 2. He would have to submit to an unlawful search of his person before entering the ceremony location for fear he may attack "them". To the best of my knowledge, Ryan has no history of violent outbursts. These terms are unacceptable. Please sign and share this petition. Anyone who has a child with special needs should be concerned. This is OUR fight! Ryan has more than earned the right and the privileged to partake in the graduation ceremony and walk across that stage. Thank you for your support.
