Elect Lt. Governor Glenn McConnell as the next president of the College of Charleston

The Issue

Glenn is our man!

We believe Glenn McConnell would be a great President for the College of Charleston.  He is a graduate of CofC, served as Student Body President when and has done more for the College of Charleston than anyone in State government.  We know he will work tirelessly as an advocate to improve our school any way possible.

We believe College of Charleston needs a President who understands Charleston's rich history and culture. Glenn McConnell is a proven leader whose years of service as a State Senator. President of the Senate and now Lt. Governor give him the knowledge and the relationship our school needs now and into the future. We also believe a president with strong leadership experience outside the academic world is exactly what the College needs to become relevant to the real world and the job market of he 21st Century.  Some of the most beloved and successful presidents in recent years all came from government or the private sector, with no academic experience.

Glenn McConnell came bring the College resources, influence and credibility with the State's business and political leaders unlike anyone we have had in the past.

Glenn McConnell is committed to increasing diversity at the college as president. He was a champion for diversity and equal rights during his years in pf leadership in state government,  During his leadership as Chairman of the Senate Judiciary and President Pro Tempore of the Senate :

The number of African-American judges more than doubled.

He led the allocation of funds from the S.C. Education Lottery to the state's historically black colleges.

He defended State money for training black male teachers and placing them in South Carolina classrooms.

He served as chairman of the African American History Monument Commission, a group that raised $2 million to design, build, and place on the Statehouse grounds a monument to pay tribute to the African- American experience from slavery to civil rights.

For all these reasons, those of us signing this on-line petition agree that GLENN IS OUR MAN . And we urge the Board of Trustees to choose Lt. Governor Glenn McConnell as the next president of the College of Charleston.
