Coca Cola: Stop Benefiting from Child Labor

The Issue

In El Salvador children as young as 8 years old are reported having injuries and severe cuts while working in sugarcane plantations. Coca-Cola is indirectly profiting from this child labor due to its association with the plantations as it buys sugar cane from El Salvador's largest sugar mill, Central Izalco. The laws in El Salvador state that the minimum age for hazardous work is 18 but this is irrelevant for these children are often hired as helpers, preventing from having the same protection benefits as employees. Because of this, the company also does not pay for the health care of these "helpers". Large companies such as Coca-Cola should take responsibility for this incredible fault.

We are also responsible for this as consumers if we do nothing to prevent it.  This problem becomes our concern as these children are just as relevant as the children in our own country.  The only difference is the geographic separation.  As we would not allow this to happen to ourselves, we should not allow it to happen to others.
