Up until recently, the bobwhite quail was very abundant in the state of NY, allowing for it to be wonderful hunting grounds, but since 2004 the ICUN has declared the Bobwhite "near threatened", with the population decreasing every year. In it's range, the quail has seen a population decrease of 65% over the last twenty years. The state department in charge of NYS Hunting, the Department of Environmental Conservation needs to be told that Bobwhite Quail hunting should be illegal. Many New England States like New Jersey and Pennsylvania have cutback on quail hunting, but someone needs to take the leap and outlaw it fully. New York should be that state.
