Change the budget - it cuts services, invests in private sector at the expense of public services & axes grants to the voluntary sector.

The Issue

People in Northamptonshire experience on a daily basis the impacts of the reductions in services from the council from the switching off of street lights to the neglect of roads and pavements. Northamptonshire County Council is making plans to cut £128m over the next five years, in addition to the £177m which will has already been cut by the end of the 2013-14 financial year. This means that they will be making cuts to social care services, support to young people (connexions), public health and will look at charging to use Household Waste Recycling centres. They will also be asking disabled people to pay more for the care that they receive. While they are doing this they will be investing money into private companies like British Gas and 02.

As council services reduce local people increasingly turn to voluntary and community groups for support. Astoundingly the County Council is slashing a small grants fund that in the past has helped small local groups respond to needs in their local communities.

Please sign the petition and pass it on to friends and family to do the same.
