Texas is poised to execute Timothy Adams on February 22, 2011, in spite of staunch opposition to his death sentence from the victim’s family, three jurors from Mr. Adams’ trial, and his fellow church members. Mr. Adams is a devoutly religious military veteran who has taken full responsibility for what he did. He poses no danger to society and has the love and support of his family, who has already endured the tragic death of a loved one and should not be forced to endure another.

Ask the Texas Parole Board to recommend and Governor Rick Perry to grant clemency to Timothy Adams.

The State of Texas is poised to execute Timothy Adams on February 22, 2011, in spite of staunch opposition to his death sentence from the victim’s family, three jurors from Mr. Adams’ trial, and his fellow church members.

I urgently appeal to the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles to vote to spare Mr. Adams’ life and to Governor Rick Perry to commute his death sentence to life without parole.

Mr. Adams is a devoutly religious military veteran who, according to his family, church members, a military commander, and work supervisors, acted completely out of character when he killed his son and attempted to take his own life in 2002 after a fight with his wife escalated out of control.

The victim’s family, who are also the family of Mr. Adams, are united in support of commuting Mr. Adams’ death sentence. Mr. Adams’ mother, father, son, siblings, aunt, uncle and cousins have already suffered the death of one family member and cannot bear to lose another.

Additionally, three jurors from Mr. Adams’ trial signed declarations stating that they believe Mr. Adams should not be executed for his crime, and that his defense failed to present critical evidence about Mr. Adams’s character and background that could have swayed the jury’s vote.

Mr. Adams has taken full responsibility for what he did. He has been a model prisoner and spent his time on death row reflecting on and seeking forgiveness for his actions, praying, and deepening his devotion to God.

Mr. Adams is profoundly remorseful, poses no danger to society, and has the love and support of his family, who has already endured the tragic death of a loved one and should not be forced to endure another.
