Vote against installing roundabouts on the Route 91 widening project

Vote against installing roundabouts on the Route 91 widening project
The Issue
Phase I of the project is Glenwood to Post Road and Phase II is Glenwood to Solon.
These roundabouts are not a good idea because:
1. Pedestrian Safety - to be able to cross safely, there must be a gap in traffic long enough to cross to the splitter island and then to the opposite curb. Pedestrians must make crossing decisions quickly before vehicles are too close. Longer gaps are needed to cross multi-lane roads than roads with only one lane in each direction. We are expecting children to be able to make these decisions.
2. Operational performance - there is a lower overall delay in traffic in a roundabout during NON-PEAK hours of the day. What would be the benefit of the roundabout during rush hour on Route 91?
3. Roundabouts DO NOT provide priority to emergency vehicles (fire and police), transit or trains.
4. Safety of signalized intersections could be improved with longer turning lanes and better timing of lights for the turning lanes to ensure a sufficient number of cars can get through during peak periods.
5. Roundabouts are a more expensive solution to implement. Why would we choose this solution in this economy?
