The Pflugerville Animal Shelter sits between two major No Kill communities, located in Austin and Williamson Co (Wilco) and both are open intake shelters. Georgetown is another city that sits right along side of Pflugerville and has supported and gone No Kill. 

Pflugerville has a history treating animals poorly to say the least. They do not have a scale to properly weight the animals they euthanize. The shelter uses euthasol to euthanize animals in their care and euthasol is given by weight. There are documents showing they have denied SEVERAL animals the minimum required by law (FDA). 

We are pushing for change in the city of Pflugerville and the shelter. We want the city to support the No Kill efforts and change the city shelter to a No Kill shelter. No Kill has proven to work and it will the the lives of thousands of adoptable animals in this city. 

It's clear that change needs to be made sooner than later and that change needs to start now. Please support our mission to improve the lives of the animals in Pflugerville and our community.

Dear City of Pflugerville,

We strongly encourage you to support the ethical treatment of animals being housed at the city's animal shelter.

From a public records review of shelter operations and procedures, it appears the shelter staff is guilty of animal cruelty. There are several documented cases where animals have not received the minimum Euthasol required by law to euthanize them humanely – and they do not have a working animal scale to allow them to properly determine dosage according to animal weight as required by state law and the FDA.

Two reputable rescue organizations have tried to work in partnership with the shelter to care for the pets and help them get adopted and both attempts have failed due to the actions of the shelter management and staff.

Pflugerville sits between 2 major No Kill communities that have offered their support and knowledge to the Pflugerville Animal Shelter. There have been private organizations that have offered to help and have been turned away by city shelter employees. The lack of compassion at the Animal Shelter currently is a definite impairment in attracting new residents to the City of Pflugerville. Across Texas, open-admission, taxpayer-funded shelters are implementing the proven life-saving procedures of the no kill equation. They are reforming their shelters and working in partnership with the local community and rescue organizations resulting in saving 90% or more of all pets that enter their taxpayer-funded shelter.

The City says the police will conduct a full investigation, but Lt. Anderson of the police department also supervises the shelter – this is a conflict of interest. The Pflugerville taxpayers taxpayers deserve an ethical, unbiased investigation.

Please help the community of Pflugerville and the Animals of Pflugerville by signing and supporting this petition. We need to show the City, the Mayor & the Police that this is not okay and that things need to change ASAP.
