The city of Fort Worth's Chuck Silcox Animal Care and Control Center has an unacceptably high kill rate ( greater than 50% according to one shelter worker). In addition, they fail to treat and contain illness within the shelter. There has been an ongoing upper respiratory contamination within the center, which has now led the shelter to immediately kill any dog who shows signs of the illness, without giving the chance for rescue or adoption. In addition, the city's spay/neuter and intact permit policy is lax and poorly enforced, leading to increased numbers of stray and homeless dogs in the city. We ask that the city decrease the kill rate and improve policy of the center, including: 1) proper treatment and confinement of ill and contagious animals 2) more strict policy on spay/neuter and intact permits 3) overall decreased kill rate of animals in the shelter
