Reasonable response times for stray/injured animals
Reasonable response times for stray/injured animals
The Issue
When a person calls in a stray or injured animal, they are being called in not only for the safety of the animal but the safety for the community. To allow an animal to roam free for up to four weeks is unacceptable. In that time period, they may become rabid if no one has made sure they have been properly vaccinated, accidents can happen causing loss of life and property, and it may be that someone is looking desperately for their lost family member. To allow these phone calls to go unattended for weeks is completely unacceptable. The City of Dallas needs to considerably shorten their response time to these calls to 3-1-1 and get these animals off the street where they can be cared for until they are either adopted or their families can be found.
