While there are a large number of surface issues that concern us greatly with this project – noise, lighting, unsightliness, storm water, etc. – the most significant concern is the contamination of ground water and wet lands in Barrington Hills and the Cook County Spring Creek Forest Preserve. The proposed site is scheduled to have a “semi-permeable” base. This suggests that storm water leaching of contaminants, as well as direct release of contaminants can migrate to our ground water supply and into the Cook County Spring Creek Forest Preserve. The shallow aquifer ground water in that area has a very high migration rate and can easily transport contaminants. These contaminants threaten human health, the health of flora and fauna, and property values in Barrington Hills and the Forest Preserve.
