Arizona Interfaith Power and Light is one of 29 sister organizations across the country devoted to deepening the connection between faith and ecology. Our goal is to help people of faith recognize and fulfill their responsibility for the stewardship of creation.
Specifically, the Arizona Interfaith Power and Light campaign is mobilizing a religious response to global warming while promoting renewable energy, energy efficiency and conservation. People of faith have an opportunity to put their faith into action and help reduce the devastating effects of global warming.
It is predicted by climate scientists at the University of Arizona that average temperatures in the state could increase several degrees by mid or late century. Each degree increase means less water, higher energy bills for air conditioning and greater risk of major forest wildfires. It can also mean life-threatening conditions for those least able to pay or find shelter, and those who are already weakened by disease or age.
To facilitate a faith-based call to action, in honor of International Day of Climate Action on October 24th, we hope to inspire the support of 350 people of faith in the state of Arizona to share with our State Senators, Jon Kyl and John McCain, their personal commitment to advance energy conservation, energy efficiency, and renewable energy to achieve a just, sustainable, and healthy planet in harmony with all Creation. Once we reach our first increment of 350, we’ll start on our second --- and, hopefully, third!”
Why 350? Scientists say that 350 parts per million CO2 in the atmosphere is the safe limit for humanity... so many groups are combining to create activities, events and actions around that number...and we're one of them! And we need YOUR help!
We'd like to invite you to join us as part of our participation in the International Day of Climate Action. What will YOU do to make our planet a more energy-efficient place to live. What sustainable change will YOU make in your lifestyle? How will YOU change the world?
While you can send the pledge as is, if you are so inspired, please take a moment to add your personal thoughts to the 3rd paragraph of the letter below to Senators Kyl and McCain, and join us in celebration of the International Day of Climate Action!

International Day of Climate Action --- An Interfaith Approach
Dear Senator
In honor of International Day of Climate Action on October 24th, Arizona Interfaith Power and Light is asking for commitments from 350 people and leaders of faith as to how they will help to create a more sustainable planet.
Why 350? Scientists say that 350 parts per million CO2 in the atmosphere is the safe limit for humanity... so many groups and individuals are pledging to create activities, events and actions around that number...and I'm one of them!
In honor of International Day of Climate Action on October 24th, I pledge to make a personal commitment to advance energy conservation, energy efficiency, and renewable energy to achieve a just, sustainable, and healthy planet in harmony with all Creation.
As a person of faith, I recognize my responsibility for the stewardship of Creation and respectfully request your consideration of this acknowledgment should you be asked to vote on any legislation designed to make a positive impact on Climate Change.
I thank you for your time and anticipate your fullest consideration of this request.
Respectfully,
[Your name]
