Stop refusing payments of customers who request a modification

The Issue

Bank of America continues to partake in deceptive practices regarding the mortgage modification process and purposely prevents it's customers from making their payments on time once that customer requests information on the mortgage modification process.

An inquiry into whether or not someone qualifies for the modification process or a request for an application does not give Bank of America the right to immediately shut down the customer's account. This very situation happened to me 6 weeks ago when I merely requested an application for a modification. I have never been delinquent or made a late payment. However, within 2 days of my request, BofA restricted access to my online account so that I am unable to make my payment. I was informed by a customer service representative that once you request a modification, your access is immediately restricted regardless of whether or not you have been offered a modification let alone even sent the application back to them. Because of this, I informed BofA, I would not be filling out the application and was no longer interested in the modification or refinance. I am still unable to make a payment even though they mailed me a confirmation letter two weeks ago acknowledging I was no longer interested in the program. Bank of America does not mail paper statements so if you don't live anywhere near a BofA branch, your only option to pay is via phone of which they charge $15 for.

This shady practice is forcing homeowner's who are in good standing to pay late and become delinquent due to their limited payment options. These practices should not be tolerated and need to be investigated.
