In 2010, only 8% of plastic waste was recycled, according to the EPA. Plastic is not biodegradable and takes 500+ years to photodegrade (degrade from sunlight exposure). Worst of all, most plastic ends up in vortexes in the oceans; there is vortex supposedly larger than the State of Texas between Hawaii and California. As a progressive company, Caribou should set an example for the industry by reducing its waste. Cups and tops for all Caribou drinks are 100% recyclable, yet Caribou hasn't provided a convenient way for customers to recycle them. In addition, paper cups for hot drinks are 100% compostable. Therefore, Caribou should provide recycling and compost bins at every Caribou location to give its customers the convenient option to properly dispose of their waste.
