CALIF: Oppose Massive Cuts to Services for People With Developmental Disabilities
CALIF: Oppose Massive Cuts to Services for People With Developmental Disabilities
The Issue
Governor Brown has proposed cutting $753 million from the budget for services to people with mental retardation, cerebral palsy, seizure disorders, autism and other similar challenges. With lost federal matching dollars this will amount to MORE THAN A BILLION DOLLARS BEING CUT FROM SPENDING THESE ESSENTIAL SERVICES. This is unconscionable. Agencies serving this population have had their funding frozen or cut for many years. Some are now on the brink of bankruptcy. Cut the state bureaucracy, NOT the agencies on the front line providing direct services to people with developmental disabilities. Support helping people to remain living independently in their own homes --not in nursing homes. Continue their involvement in work-related activities during the day. Don't stop the help they receive to get and succeed in real jobs. Don't cut services to people with disabilities--fund them! Contact California State Senators, State Assembly Members and Governor Brown to give them this message NOW!
