Stop nationwide predatory rent-to-own practices and financial misconduct

The Issue

Rent-A-Center consistently violates consumer protection laws by charging higher prices than the value of the property rented. They have been the defendants in many class action lawsuits across the nation (West Virginia, Washington, Pennsylvania, California, New Jersey, Minnesota, Wisconsin ... et al) where customers have been charged exorbitant prices, fees, experienced bad faith and predatory agreements and had their rights violated through threat of violence, harm, and legal and police action when Rent-A-Center knew full well that they did not have the legal authority to do so. They continue these actions, even though sued numerous times, in states that allow them to get away with it. The problem is not with renting, it is with predatory practices in which people actually pay more for the property than it is worth and still are subjected to having their paid-in-full property (at two to three times the market value) confiscated under illegal "threats" and coercive collection tactics. These practices have led to damage, harm, and millions of dollars in losses to practical consumers even after they have paid for the merchandise that is then "repossessed" from them. The Better Business Bureau does not help because RAC is a paying "member" of the BBB and pay for good ratings rather than actually practicing good and fair, equitable business. These illegal and coercive "reverse theft" practices on customers need to stop immediately and Rent-A-Center needs to reimburse the people they have cheated or return their property in the same or similar state in which it was stolen from them.
