On May 3, 2012 my dog Buddy escaped my yard and was shortly run over and killed. Like many dogs do, he lost his collar while escaping and therefore the only way to identify him was by his microchip. It was after I posted his lost flyers that someone called to let me know she had seen him after he had been hit and killed the morning he got loose. I would like for the City of Tampa Department of Solid Waste to use a scanner on dogs and cats they pick up so the owner will be notified of what happened to their dog or cat. My neighborhood always has signs up looking for lost dogs and it's a terrible feeling not knowing where your pet is or what happened to them. I believe letting pet owners know that their pets were killed would prevent unnecessary worrying and searching. Of course the pet owners are going to be unhappy to hear that their pets were killed, but it's still better than not knowing what happened to them.
