On Friday, August 24, Assemblymember and Brooklyn Democratic Party Chairman Vito Lopez was censured and dismissed from his position as chair of the state assembly's housing committee by Speaker Sheldon Silver due to credible allegations that Lopez physically and verbally sexually harassed two female members of his staff.

As proud Brooklyn Democrats, we need to send a strong signal that we do not tolerate sexual harassment, especially from those in positions of power.

We call on Lopez to resign his chairmanship of the Brooklyn Democratic Party, effective immediately.

We call on all Brooklyn elected officials and district leaders to join us in this demand.
