Stop the Unreasonable Increases and Changes in the Mandatory Mealplan

Stop the Unreasonable Increases and Changes in the Mandatory Mealplan
The Issue
For those of you who don't know, please read this article: http://www.bcheights.com/hillside-will-no-longer-take-mandatory-dining-funds-1.2864018#.T59HDO17EuI
BC Dining is about to raise the cost of the meal plan. In addition, they're also installing Mini Marts around campus that have a supermarket-type feel. But that's not all. Of the now $4,818 to spend each year, $350 of those funds are designated for specific use at ONLY the Chocolate Bar, Mini Marts, Hillside Cafe, concessions, and vending machines. Only $350 for all of the Chicken Club sandwiches, Baja Chicken paninis, and supermarket goods for an entire year. Stop me when this starts to make any sense.
By the way, the mealplan is also mandatory. So all that money we spend HAS to be used at BC. And if you want a refund at the end of the year, it's not happening.
"They say they cannot break even with the current business model, so they're raising our costs. Any other company would change their model to break even rather than placing a deeper burden on many indebted college students. This manipulation is unfair and is contrary to the Jesuit ideals they supposedly support through these price increases." (credit to Collin Fedor for this writing)
By signing this petition, you're saying that you want a better dining experience. You, the student, are demanding changes that benefit YOU, not the pockets of BC Dining. We're tired of being charged exorbitant prices for food and a meal plan that is mandatory. We're tired of not having a say in a better dining experience. We're tired of being roped in to a meal plan that puts us at the mercy of whatever the BC Dining Czar wants, and never getting money back that we don't use. We want a system that works, that gives us quality for what we pay, and lets us make our own decisions on how we spend our money.
