Add Planned Parenthood as a Charity Partner for Bay to Breakers 2012

The Issue

The annual Bay to Breakers race in San Francisco has graciously added a charity fundraising component to the 2012 race so runners can raise money for the richly deserving charity of their choice.http://zazzlebaytobreakers.com/index.php?page=beneficiaries

Planned Parenthood has been ungraciously given the shiv by our ex-BFF’s at the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Surely Ms. Komen is rolling in her grave.

This strikes we the undersigned as a perfect opportunity to pick up the Komen Foundation’s ill-advised slack. We are asking that Planned Parenthood be added to the list of Run & Give charity partners for Bay to Breakers 2012.

People, Planned Parenthood did not even do anything wrong. They lost nearly three quarters of a million dollars of Komen funding for being “under investigation” -- when said investigation is based on a demonstrably bogus and trumped-up charge. To paraphrase a well-known contemporary poet, “They was doing 55 in a 54”.

We see Bay to Breakers’ commendable new Run & Give program as a powerful and creative opportunity to recoup some of the losses Planned Parenthood now faces. We will not just stand here and shrug as tens of thousands of uninsured women are denied breast cancer screenings. We are committed to making up the difference, preferably in the context of a drunken party race atmosphere.

We realize San Francisco is one of the only major U.S. cities where you could publicly raise Planned Parenthood funds in a lucrative and public context without getting eggs or batteries thrown at you. Actually, that might happen anyway. But we are still down!

We do not feel you can call yourself “pro-life” while at the same time preventing access to cancer screenings. Sure, Planned Parenthood also is the nation’s largest abortion provider. Well… someone has to be!

We are asking Bay to Breakers to include Planned Parenthood as a charity beneficiary for 2012. It is tough times for them, and good times for many of us. Surely something can be worked out here, no?

**Please only sign if you are willing to REGISTER for Bay to Breakers or DONATE to this worthy cause. We are not interested in just blowing smoke, we are interested in RESULTS. The action part comes later, but we need to show that we are serious about taking action, and that our altruistic power is greater than out traditional race-course decadence would imply.
