Bashir and the NCP Must Go

The Issue

Sudan’s President Bashir and the National Congress Party are responsible for the death or displacement of over 10 million Sudanese.

Given the African Union’s vision for the continent and its investment in Sudan, we, the undersigned Sudanese, civil society organizations and friends of Sudan, urge the African Union to move from managing the status quo in Sudan, which is marked by violence, oppression and deprivation to supporting the aspirations of the people of Sudan, which are to live in a free democratic society where diversity serves as the foundation for a strong nation and where its government represents and serves rather than destroys its people, by demanding President Bashir and the National Congress Party to vacate its position of leadership and to support an interim government followed by internationally organized and monitored national elections.

And, given the existing cooperation between the African Union and the United Nations in Sudan and given the United Nations’ commitment to The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which was adopted in 1948 to prevent atrocities associated with the Holocaust from happening again and yet has been violated in its entirety by the National Congress Party; we, the undersigned, urge the United Nations to support lasting change in Sudan by demanding the National Congress Party to step aside and by providing significant support to the African Union and the people of Sudan that facilitates free and fair elections and that ensures a just and genuine peace for all Sudanese.
