Atkinson Road has the 9th busiest speed camera in New Zealand, has a high level of crashes and yet has two primary schools, two preschools, a kindergarten and an entrance to an intermediate within a 2km stretch. Auckland Transport seems reluctant to install any speed inhibitors, such as speed bumps, because the road has the wrong classifictaion - according to the manual. Residents have tried for years to get something done about the speed on this road. Road safety, especially around schools, has to be a priority
