Ask British Columbia government to invest in the protection of BC’s ocean environments

We need your help to encourage the British Columbia government to invest in the protection of BC’s ocean environments
The BC coast needs a marine use and conservation plan that will protect the abundance and diversity of life in our oceans. There is currently a federal government proposal to establish a comprehensive planning process in the Pacific North and Central Coast Regions of BC, also known as PNCIMA (pronounced pin-SEE-mah). To be effective, the PNCIMA process needs all governments to be involved, but the provincial government is not involved to the level needed and they are not investing money or government workers’ time to help make this happen.
The provincial government is asking British Columbians what they want from government. Please send a letter to Premier Gordon Campbell and tell him that you want to improve the management and protection of our oceans in PNCIMA.
Please see the suggested letter below and send your message to Premier Campbell today!
Thanks in advance for being a champion for our oceans.

Dear Premier Campbell
Please increase the funding to the provincial agencies that have the jurisdiction and authority to enhance the management and protection of our oceans. I specifically request that you ensure that funding and human resources are made available to effectively participate in a marine use planning process for the Pacific North Coast Integrated Management Area(PNCIMA) with Coastal First Nations and the Federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans.
British Columbia’s marine environment is an incredible ecosystem, providing many services and economic opportunities to British Columbians. I want your government to ensure that BC continues to benefit from our ocean environment and ensure that our oceans remain healthy and productive.
As a result of the combined effects of changing climate and increased industrial and commercial activity, the health of our oceans is gradually but continuously being degraded. I believe we need more marine protected areas on the BC coast and improved management of industries operating in the marine environment. This requires a greater level of investment by your government in a comprehensive marine planning process.
Please invest in the health of our ocean environments!
