Ask Domino Sugar to Offer a Fair Trade Sugar Option

Ask Domino Sugar to Offer a Fair Trade Sugar Option

The Issue

The tradition of slavery in the production of sugar dates back to colonial days, and slaves have been used to harvest and process sugar cane ever since. In the past two years, thousands of modern-day slaves have been discovered on sugar cane plantations in Brazil, and the government believes thousands more are still enslaved there. Trafficking in the sugar cane industry has also been identified in Mexico, China, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and other countries across the Caribbean. The sugar these slaves harvest ends up on the grocery store shelves in bags or pre-made treats in the U.S., Europe, and around the world.

As one of the largest and most recognizable sugar brands in the world, Domino Sugar could make huge strides toward ending slavery in the sugar industry. By simply offering a Fair Trade sugar option to customers, Domino would be both meeting the growing consumer demand for fairly-sourced food and improving the lives of sugar farmers around the world.

Please ask Domino Sugar to offer Fair Trade sugar as part of their product line.
