Add an Age Restriction to the Ugly Meter App

The Issue

The Ugly Meter, an iPhone application that takes your photo and scans the details of your face to give you a rating of 1-10 on the Ugly Scale has become one of Apple's top-selling applications for its iPhone and iPad.

In the wrong hands, the Ugly Meter can be used as a harmful tool that can trigger depression or eating disorders and increase bullying, specifically among youth.

Currently the app is rated as a 9+, implying that it can be suitable for users as young as 9. We're simply asking Apple to be socially responsible and change the app to have a more age-appropriate rating of age 17+.

An alternative app, Body Beautiful is aiming to do a little good in the world by helping girls and women cultivate a positive self-image and encourage true beauty with inspirational quotes, media articles, videos and tools. Body Beautiful has even donated proceeds to organizations such as the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA).

While top media outlets such as CNBC, The Today Show and Kelly Ripa have featured the Ugly Meter, they have not highlighted apps that support positive self image.

Let's prevent potentional harm that can be caused by the Ugly Meter in the hands of maturing youth and shed some light on positive apps.
