The Issue

The task force that is creating the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders #5, or DSM-V, is going to lump these conditions into one category simply known as autism in this version of the DSM. They offered people a chance to change this, but despite all of the outcries against it. they are still going through with it! Therefore, I'm trying one more time. These conditions should not be put in one category. I have Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS) and like having that diagnosis. I am able to find other people with it more easily than if we were all called autistic, and I'm sure others with my condition and the others as well as their supporters agree. If the new DSM-V lumps them together, we won't be able to find others with similar problems as easilyor get the right services for us.
