Anthony R. Foxx: Provide the skate community with a 100% legal street skating venue
Anthony R. Foxx: Provide the skate community with a 100% legal street skating venue
The Issue
Skateboarding is not a crime and should not be viewed as a crime. We want to provide street skaters with a 100% legal skating surface without hassles from property owners, police and local security companies. We have parks that are here now, but they are not built with the street skaters in mind. Street skaters make up about 70% of the skate community world wide and the parks that are being built do not have us in mind when these parks are built and designed. Skateboarding is not allowed in most urban areas due to many reasons, but when street skating takes place on ledges, steps, rails and other obstacles within city settings it causes problems around the community with arrests, boards being taken and all the tax payer money spent to prosecute these so called "law breakers". The youth needs a way to stay out of trouble more than anything and when the police take skateboards from these kids for skating in an "illegal environment" it also takes the ability to keep out of trouble. We need to help the city of charlotte in bringing this idea to life to help out youth to stay out of trouble and to provide kids a way to stay active. With the Safe Spot Skate Spot and the Rob Dyrdek foundation we can set a course of change in providing these skaters with a safe and legal place to skate. Any questions please feel free to contact us and we will provide all the correct information for the local community here in charlotte nc, @ orangelabel1@aol.com or for information on the safe spot skate spot and the Rob Dyrdek foundation or the skate for life program can all be found @ robdyrdekfoundation.org
