Paz Mendez, a community leader involved with Metro Organizations for People (MOP) and St. Pius Catholic Church member in Colorado was recently detained. He is the father of three children ranging from 6 - 16 years of age. Paz has been in the USA for almost a decade and has maintained a clean record. Paz has a hard-working reputation and holds a degree in engineering. His family is very active in the community through sport and Church activities. Paz also serves on the Church’s social justice ministry. He came to the USA to escape violence and provide strong opportunities for his children. He now faces deportation. Deportation at this level creates many challenges within the family’s broader community. “We know Paz and his family and they are wonderful community members. Paz is a confirmation leader and his wife is a catechist. They are at most functions/large gatherings, and are the kind of community members that we should welcome and want with open arms. His family will only be an asset to our community, and to not recognize that and/or give opportunities for citizenship is an injustice.
