Include Racism as a form of Mental Illness in the DSM-5.

Include Racism as a form of Mental Illness in the DSM-5.

The Issue

Racism would be less rampant if people could be professionally treated for it

Acronym/Name: R.I.D. (Racial Insensitivity Disorder).

Racism needs to be recognized as a mental sickness, regardless of its socio-cultural origin.

Impetus for this petition: We are living in an age in which something like a fear of open spaces is considered an illness -- or disorder -- to be "treated." Since the APA is think-tanking on new forms and definitions of mental illness for inclusion in the forthcoming DSM-V, the burden of proof should be on them to prove racism is NOT a mental sickness. If they can do that, I will suspend my petition
