American Opportunity Debate at Alter Road, Detroit

The Issue

The American Dream is under fire in this presidential election.

The promise of equal opportunity is threatened in communities all over the country. Nowhere is this divide more acute than at Alter Road, Detroit. Conservatives have proclaimed this is an election to define an "Opportunity Society." Let's hear them and the president wrestle with this issue in full view of the geographic divides between urban and suburban America.

Why Alter Road?

Because, In contrasts almost worthy of fiction, educational, wealth and opportunity gaps abound. Median home values at this otherwise arbitrary political line are separated by a gasp worthy $150,000. Detroit’s side of Alter Rd is marred by large swaths of urban decay and blight; while Grosse Pointe marks the separation with lush green medians and sail-boat embossed street signs. Over 6 blocks in either direction of Alter Road, a devastating physical landscape unfolds to powerfully reveal the stark contrasts of America’s poor and privileged classes.

Please join this cause to ask President Obama and his Republican opponent to come to the most jarring and most alarming divide in all the land this September.

Petition our presidential contenders to wrestle with the promise of America where it matters most.

Ask the candidates to debate the 99% vs. the 1%; ask them to debate inequality and equal opportunity; ask them to come forward with solutions.

Demand that our presidential aspirants take part in the most important debate this country can have in 2012.

Please join. Please Share. Please insist on a real debate about American Opportunity at Detroit's Alter Road this September.

Thanks for your support!
