Alabama Immigration Reform

Alabama Immigration Reform

The Issue

The United States is a nation of immigrants. Without the intellectual and human capital that immigrants provide, our country will continue to fall behind on the economic world stage, which will only cause further income inequality and opportunities to be taken from the least of us.

In Alabama, unemployment law is intricately linked with immigration policy. Enactment of the abusive immigration policy lowered the unemployment rate by more than half a percentage point. Though proponents of the immigration policy may see this as a victory, what it means is that a state with a growing automobile and steel industry is simply attempting to cut loose those who are just looking for a chance, and it is adversely affecting those of certain ethnic backgrounds who are in the state legally.

Believe it or not, Alabama is home to the fastest growing automobile and steel business enterprises in the nation, and there is plenty of room for everyone to work. Those who do not live in Alabama are still encouraged to sign this petition as immigration is an issue of national concern and the Alabama law sets an unconscionable precedent that could affect your state very soon.

This petition calls for the complete reform of the immigration and unemployment law in Alabama, demanding that the legislature open up industries to immigrants and reform the unemployment benefits of the state, which have been ranked among the worst in the nation.
