The mission of American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees is appreciated but broadcast media has changed, AFSCME is unsuitable for the employees of WLRN, a department of Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Professional broadcasters need to be represented by a professional radio and television union.  AFSCME should release WLRN employees.   WLRN has unfairly branched off into three different companies and bypass union rules: 1.) Miami-Dade County Public Schools. 2.) Friends of WLRN, Inc.  3.) (Herald News) South Florida Public Media Company, Inc.   Employees from each work side-by-side but WLRN (MDCPS) staff - the people you hear on the air everyday - are being mistreated, bullied and forced to work in deplorable conditions, reduced to either as part-time employees or independent contractors, meanwhile Friends and Herald staff enjoy fulltime benefits, generous salaries, overtime pay and yearly bonuses.  A professional radio and television union can bring this inequality to an end and make a positive impact on the community.
